Inspiring New Year Resolutions

Whether you already have New Year resolutions or you have decided against having any this year, here are some inspiring New Year resolutions to consider. These will motivate you to achieve the best from the new year and end it up smiling with genuine satisfaction.

1. Read at least one book every month

Readers are leaders, but it’s not in the sense of the word. Reading regularly keeps you updated, confident, and intelligent which are characteristics that automatically make people see you as a leader.

Regular reading helps to keep your mind sharp, it improves your cognitive abilities by strengthening pathways for better memory, quicker understanding of new concepts, feeding you with new information, and a stronger capacity to engage in highly intellectual discourse.

Reading at least one book every month is a highly realistic New Year resolution that can make you super productive and informed by the end of the year. Reading regularly builds new brain connections that help you think faster and approach problems more efficiently.

2. Start a business

What more inspiration do you need before you start that business idea that has been on your mind? You can do it, and you have all it takes to succeed. You only need to start now without any further procrastination.

Rather than wait so long because you don’t feel prepared to start your business, take the step now.

On the question of when is the best time to start a business, the beginning of the year is always a great time because you are likely more motivated in January and book-keeping is easier beginning from the beginning of the year.

Whether you have started making your business plans or not, you can achieve this resolution this year. You just have to be determined to start it now.

3. Go tobacco-free

Smoking tobacco or any other substance is a harmful practice that can significantly impact every aspect of your life. It also has negative health consequences too. So, this year might be a great time to quit and go tobacco-free if you have become dependent on the substance.

Substance use or abuse can get you so hooked up you don’t find enough passion to pursue other aspects of your life, including business, relationships, and the like. This is why deciding to go tobacco-free is an important decision you can make.

Very importantly, this is an inspiring resolution because it is realistic. With the right amount of determination, proper information, and some help from rehabilitation, you can achieve your goal of quitting smoking or vaping any hard substance.

4. Get married

Nothing stops you from making a New Year’s resolution to get married this year. You might already have a partner but may still be having concerns about your readiness to marry him or her. It is also likely that this year fits the plan you’ve always had for yourself with respect to getting married.

There are several accounts of people who have decided to bring their plans for marriage to reality before the end of the year. Many of their successes have shown that where there is a will, there is a way, particularly if finding a partner is not the main issue at the moment.

5. Do at least 2 hours of moderate exercise per week

The American Heart Association recommends at least 150 minutes of moderate aerobic exercise or 75 minutes of vigorous aerobic exercise per week for adults, as this is beneficial to one’s general and cardiovascular health. This translates to around 2.5 hours weekly for moderate exercises and 1 hour 15 minutes for vigorous exercise.[1]American Heart Association Recommendations for Physical Activity in Adults and Kids – American Heart Association

Moderate aerobic exercises involve physical activities that make your heart beat faster and make you breathe harder than normal but you will still be able to talk, while vigorous-intensity aerobics will temporarily take away your ability to talk without running out of breath.

This bare minimum requirement is something you can easily achieve, meaning you have a chance to achieve your fitness goals for the year. Even if you can’t meet up to 150 minutes/75 minutes for moderate and vigorous intensity exercises, respectively, you can start someone and gradually build your way to the target.

6. Avoid alcohol

While older research shows that moderate alcohol may be helpful in the prevention of coronary heart disease, more recent evidence indicates that no level of alcohol is considered safe to drink but if it must be done, should be kept within normal weekly reference values below 14 units for both men and women.[2]Health risks and benefits of alcohol consumption. Alcohol Res Health. 2000[3]Alcohol units – NHS UK

Alcohol consumption has a lot of negative health effects ranging from cardiovascular disease to liver/pancreatic disease to cancers.[4]10 New Year’s Resolutions for a Healthier You in 2025 – Knowseeker Apart from these, committing to your New Resolution to stop alcoholism will save you from its effects on your behavior, impulse control, and productivity.

7. Make new networks

It is never out of place to make new friends and networks. The experience of life’s journey is significantly determined by the quality of connections you make.

By resolving to make new networks, you will be more focused on building quality relationships rather than acting in ways that cut the bridges instead. When you genuinely care about relationships, your approach toward people around changes completely. It shifts from selfishness to a life that leaves a positive lasting impact in the minds of people even after you part ways.

Don’t be shy to go out, initiate, or engage in conversations with new people. Be willing to help without asking for anything in return. And, learn to show kindness when you have what it takes.

8. Pay off all your debts

If you are struggling with debts, resolving to be extra-committed to paying them off this new year can go a long way. No matter how huge your debts are, if you have a good debt repayment plan, you can pay off your debts by the end of the year.

Debts are negative indices of a person’s financial status. Avoid debts as much as you can while you service your old debts. Also avoid borrowing money to pay another debt, especially when the interest rate is high.

9. Start a job

If you have the qualifications, put your mind towards finding a job. Submit applications to several companies.

If signs of employment are not visible, you can start a self-employment job/business as discussed above earlier. And if for anything else, you have all it takes to get either of these. And as long as you put your mind to it, you can achieve it this year.

10. Save and invest more

Whether you saved last year or you didn’t save at all, saving this year is a resolution you need to make. Saving money gives you a financial safety net, prevents you from overspending, and makes you more judicious with your finances, making it one of the principles of making sustainable wealth.

Saving begins with committing your mind to it and then planning your income and expenditure. You also need to cut down on unnecessary spending habits and pay back interest debts.
